The Grammy-winning rap artist Lil Wayne pleaded guilty on Thursday to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, and is to be sentenced to a year behind bars under a plea agreement with prosecutors, the Manhattan district attorney’s office announced.
In a 13th-floor courtroom in State Supreme Court, the rapper, whose given name is Dwayne M. Carter Jr., entered a guilty plea before Justice Charles H. Solomon, who reminded the defendant that the plea would have no bearing on charges that he is facing in other states.
Police said a gun was found on Lil Wayne’s tour bus in Manhattan in 2007. Lil Wayne acknowledged in court that there was a gun on the bus and identified it as a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

T.I. begins federal prison sentence in Arkansas

Rapper T.I. entered an Arkansas federal prison Tuesday to begin a year and a day sentence on a weapon charge.
T.I., whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., still made a concert-like entrance to the Forrest City low-security prison — likely showing up 29 minutes late inside of a black conversion van with tinted windows. T.I was to report at noon CT, but the deadline passed as guards outside blocked reporters and onlookers from coming near the facility on a rural state highway.
It was not immediately clear if T.I.’s late arrival would affect his plea deal with prosecutors.

Atlanta rap artist T.I. will go to federal prison sometime after Mother’s Day and serve a year and a day for crimes that might get anybody else about five years in the slammer.
In October 2007, Atlanta rapper T.I. was arrested by federal undercover agents in a Midtown parking lot trying to buy machine guns, ammo and silencers.
At a sentencing hearing Friday in Atlanta, the 27-year-old singer (real name: Clifford Harris Jr. — latest CD: “Paper Trail”), told U.S. District Court Judge Charles Pannell Jr. he was sorry, humbled by his arrest, and a changed man.
“I am a man of integrity, I’m a man of morals, of standards, of principle,” he told Pannell. “I know it’s difficult to believe that — looking at my criminal history.”

As T.I. counts down his time as a free man, he’s getting a few things in order.
The rapper is keeping busy with his MTV show “Road to Redemption,” and he performed a show this past weekend in Miami, bidding adieu to many of his ardent supporters before serving prison sentence. And he’s still recording music, getting in some last-minute studio time with DJ Toomp and others.
T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris) is set to go before an Atlanta federal judge on March 27. According to the April issue of Vibe, that’s when Tip will officially be sentenced to prison. The sentence is part of an agreement the rapper struck after pleading guilty to weapons charges, stemming from his 2007 arrest prior to the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. The rapper was charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
