“Forever” Inspired by LeBron Movie, Music Video Planned

August 27, 2009 by Porky · Leave a Comment

A new song called “Forever” will feature hip-hop superstars Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Drake. It was inspired by the forthcoming LeBron James documentary More Than A Game and it will be on the movie soundtrack, which comes out September 29 on Interscope Records. Polow Da Don will executive produce the soundtrack, which will also include songs by T.I., Mary J. Blige and Young Jeezy, according to Rich Paul, who works with James at their marketing company, LRMR. “['Forever'] was done, it was just Drake and Kanye, and then they went back and got two more prolific talents, and it just made it even crazier,” Paul told MTV News. Plans are in the works for Drake, Wayne, West and Em to shoot a video for “Forever” in New York with director Hype Williams.

In his young presidency, Obama has steered somewhat away from the subject of race. He has seemingly tried to be a “post-race” President. Last night at the NAACP’s 100th Anniversary dinner, the President tackled the subject head on. He spoke of the legacy of discrimination and of personal responsibility. Here are a few portions of his speech:

“Make no mistake: the pain of discrimination is still felt in America.”

“African-American students are lagging behind white classmates in reading and math – an achievement gap that is growing in states that once led the way on civil rights. Over half of all African-American students are dropping out of school in some places. There are overcrowded classrooms, crumbling schools, and corridors of shame in America filled with poor children — black, brown, and white alike.”

It’s an American success story. Self-made black multimillionaires, many of whom grew up poor,
have made vast fortunes in the sports, entertainment and media industries.

The new moguls made their millions under the age of 40, primarily by taking more ownership and control over their brands than their predecessors. Collectively, black athletes in the NFL, NBA, and in Major League Baseball earned nearly $4 billion last year and the nation’s 20 highest-paid hip-hop entrepreneurs brought in more than $500 million. Now, with their newfound wealth come responsibilities to their family, friends, and community.

Based on Lee Hawkins’ forthcoming book of the same title, NEWBOs: The Rise of America’s New Black Overclass examines the growing responsibilities of black celebrities in the Obama age. The project features personal stories and interviews with some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. It’s an inside look into how each successful NEWBO surmounted challenges to achieve the American Dream.
