Snoop Dogg Named Chairman of Priority Records

September 11, 2009 by Porky

Snoop Dogg is back home.

The label that distributed Dr. Dre’s first solo LP, The Chronic, which gave us the debut of the Doggfather, has named Snoop its Creative Chairman. Priority Records announced Snoop’s appointment September 8.

Snoop will be Executive Producer of a slate of releases from the urban music label.

Snoop tells FMQB News the following:

“Starting fresh with EMI is a great feeling. It’s a new partnership, a new Priority Records, and a new Snoop Dogg: the Creative Chairman…the Boss Dogg…the Dogg Father. The business model we?ve developed will bring the musical heritage of groups like N.W.A. to the forefront. And you definitely got to get ready for my new album Malice N Wonderland in December to kick it all off — this is going to be the most potent dose of Snoop Dogg yet!”

Most likely, his name will be on the back of releases by Twista and Raekwon, two MCs who decided to have their releases distributed by EMI, the parent of Priority.

It looks like one of the men who defined West Coast rap will fit in snugly, since the label has also housed a majority of the West Coast icons, such as Ice Cube, Westside Connection, Eazy-E, N.W.A. (of which Eazy and Cube were part) and or course Dre. EPMD and Master P’s No Limit label had also been distibuted through Priority at some point in their early careers.

Congrats, Snoop. For all your years of influencing the sound of California urban music, today marks the reward. I hope you can teach youngsters ready to join Priority how to do what you became famous for.

Nuff said.
