Nas, Damien Marley Team For Album And Tour
April 8, 2009 by Porky

Nas, Damien Marley, The Roots, Big Boi, Common and many others will play this summer’s Rock The Bells traveling Hip-Hop festival, which is set to visit 10 cities between June 27 and August 9. Rock The Bells has traditionally been a tour where Rap veterans showcase their talents alongside promising newcomers, and that tradition will continue as old schoolers KRS-One, House Of Pain, M.O.P. and Wu-Tang members RZA and Raekwon play with up-and-coming artists like Mickey Factz, K’Naan and Tech N9ne. Each tour stop will feature 25 artists on two stages, and it is scheduled to visit Toronto, Washington D.C., Boston, New York, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Vancouver. Specific dates and venues will be announced shortly.
Additionally, headliners Nas and Damien Marley will be releasing a joint album called Distant Relatives in June. As one would expect, the record mixes Reggae and Rap.
“As an American, we have so much even in a so-called recession that a neighborhood like Queensbridge or Red Hook is Beverly Hills compared to the way people are living in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Ghana,” Nas said in a statement about the album. “So obviously if we making records with that theme, there’s gonna be things I want to build on. I think Africa has a lot to teach us.”
“Africa is the backbone of the world and the foundation of everything, and Africans are in a situation where they need help more than anywhere else,” added Marley. “We know there are dire situations here in America, but when you look at America — with public libraries and free education — these are not opportunities most Africans have. It’s a completely different scale of trying to help people. As human beings, we’re part of a human family.”
