A music publishing company called Abkco Music Inc has sued Lil Wayne saying he released an altered version of the Rolling Stones’ song “Playing with Fire” without permission.
The rapper whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter and his label are being accused of copyright infringement and unfair competition.
Lil Wayne’s “Playing with Fire” is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones song with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way, Abkco said in its lawsuit.
For instance, in the original song there’s a part that said “But don’t play with me, cause you’re playing with fire,” and in the Lil Wayne’s version he has the line, “But you can’t blame me if I set this stage on fire.”
