Diddy a Victim of Twitter ‘Unfollow’ Trend
May 30, 2009 by Porky

In a new twist to celebrity backlash, a Twitter trend called “unfollowdiddy” has emerged soon after hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs hit one million followers on the microblogging site.
While celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Ashton Kutcher have embraced Twitter and quickly built up an online following, Mr. Combs didn’t receive the same warm and fuzzy reception from Twitterers.
Starting on Wednesday, the hashtag “#unfollowdiddy” reached the top ten Twitter trends, which persisted Thursday, in which users posted the hashtag and listed both humorous and serious reasons why people shouldn’t follow Diddy on Twitter. Some of the highlights were: “because his ego is bigger than all of ours combined,” “Because my SeanJohn Tracksuit Fell APART” and “Diddy is at the intersection of all that is mediocre in the US.”
While Mr. Combs’ Twitter feed is now locked and can only be read by followers, he responded to the backlash with tweets like “Life is short! Use your time wisely!” and “while your trying to tear me down I’m already onto my next dream!” And maybe “unfollowdiddy” is helping him — he continues to have more than one million following him.
