I thought the album was pretty hot, not up to par with Devils night but still good nonetheless. I really enjoyed How Come, Loyalty, Good Die Young, and get My Gun.

I disagree, I feel that the rest of D12 matured on this album and the lyrics for the other group members were better than in Devil's night. I just think that Devil's night had the better songs.

nine the guys are stepping out from behind eminem but devils nite shit straight 10 fight music. fuck thats some losing your life music. every group has weak members. even eazy e said ice cube writes the rhymes that i say...hail to... anyway swift and kuniva could step it up a little but proof is fire. with a little work he could run circles around most out. doesnt he write most of some of the others rhymes? anyway could have been better. i expect better from em, and proof.

D12’s World
By Vincent Lane

Being a huge fan of Eminem and his seemingly untouchable Shady Records, I was very excited to step into D12 World. I thought that D12’s first album Devil’s Night was a very solid hip-hop debut in every aspect, and I was hoping their follow-up would pick up where their first album left off. Sadly, it did not. Even if you chalk up every Bizarre verse in the loss column and forget about his non-talented rhymes, D12 World still doesn’t show anything too promising. This album seems like it was thrown together in a matter of a few months, and I cannot believe this is what D12 offers us four years after their debut. If D12 would have thrown together an album 3 months after Devil’s Night, this would be that album. Then I could say, well, for an album rushed to be made in 3 months, it wasn’t that bad. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
First off, there are way too many Eminem-less tracks on D12 World, and I am sure the rest of D12 are probably trying to get out of his shadow, but damn! This album needs more Eminem, plain and simple. I guess before I start breaking down the album I should introduce you to the other members of Eminem’s “band” better known as D12 (or Dirty Dozen). There are six members (including Em), and they go by Kon Artis, Proof, Swifty, Kuniva and Bizarre. Typically, Kon Artis & Em act as the leaders both lyrically and production-wise; Proof, Swifty and Kuniva help define the definition of an emcee, while Bizarre, welp, let’s just say he lives up to his name.
The album starts off with the Slim Shady produced “Git Up,” which has been getting heavy play on the mixtape circuit for the past few months. Eminem (the only emcee who can put “banana fanana fo fana” in a rap without getting clowned) starts off spitting the first verse which is saturated with the same old played out gun talk, and tearing the club up references that everyone else seems to resort to on every track. Truthfully, I expected more from Em, and while it is a mediocre verse at best, he still has a few nyce lines here and there. The tempo of this track segue’s right into “Loyalty” (which sounds like the almost, exact same beat, something Eminem is doing all too often), and Proof comes through hard when it his turn claiming “for life it’s D12/no ice or Spreewell’s/everynight I chill and fight be free will/knowing I can be killed.” This track is the only one that featuring anyone else outside of D12 (excluding the excellent Young Zee 16 on the Commercial Break skit), as Obie Trice makes a notable appearance spitting about family loyalty.
For “Just Like Me” D12 reached out to Hi-Tek for the musical backdrop for Bizarre’s crazy antics. Seeing as this is Bizarre’s solo track, the only thing worth paying attention to is Hi-Tek’s ability to work the boards. The hook truly isn’t that bad, but then Bizarre starts to rap, and wow. WOW! He is so bad, and his verses never flow right over any beat. His rhyme style is very elementary, and to make a long story short, I would rather here American Idol reject William Hung cover 2pac’s greatest hits, than to hear another 16 bars from Bizarre. I hope Shady Records didn’t pay too much money for this track, because the two verses on this song are a waste.
Speaking of great production, Kon Artis (a.k.a. Denaun) has been emerging as one of hip-hop’s most talented producers (check out 50 Cent’s “P.I.M.P.” and G-Unit’s “Stunt 101”). Producing a lot of D12 World, Kon’s stand out tracks would have to be “U R The One” and “I’ll Be Damned.” Not only is the production airtight on these two cuts, but Kon Artis seems to have a knack for creating catchy hooks. “I’ll Be Damned” has him crooning a hook about women, and he holds it down on the verse as well, spitting “I’ma freak undercovers/I got plans for you trick, I don’t need a baby mother/I got 5 of them mufuckas/tryna smother me already.”
“U R The One” has D12 (Eminem less) talking about the type of girl that attracts them, as Kon Artis spits another infectious hook. This track right here is really one of the stand out joints on D12 World, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this were to become a single in the near future. If the rest of the album had more tracks like this, then it would have been a more solid effort.
Of course everyone has heard the hit single “My Band” which has Eminem mocking the public’s perception of D12. The funny thing about this song is that even though it centers on the group and the fact that they do not get enough recognition, “My Band” is constantly referred to in the streets as “the new Eminem song.” Oh well, it is what it is, a creative track with a hook that you can’t help but recite, and the last 30 seconds are so hilarious as Em goes on this Arabian impersonation which is worthy of a Oscar.
“Bitch” plays out like another attempt at a hip-popish track, but showcases the flawless Eminem delivery he is well known for. He not only spits a melodic verse, but you can envision him riding every instrument on the track. D12 World needs more of this Eminem. Swifty spits a notable verse over Eminem’s new school break beat rhythm of “Get My Gun,” but this is the only true highlight on this track. While we are talking about Eminem’s production, isn’t it beginning to sound the same on every track?
On a brighter note, my two favorite tracks are “American Psycho 2” and “How Come.” The latter of the two has Eminem, Denaun and Proof rapping about old friends who seem to have changed, and one can only think that Eminem is talking about a fellow Detroit native who happens to be 5 foot 9 inches tall (get the hint, I’m talking about Royce) when he spits the hook “how come, we don’t even talk no more/and you don’t even call no more/we don’t keep in touch at all/and I don’t feel the same love when we hug no more/and I heard through the grapevine we even beefing now.” Proof comes in on the third verse and adds, “fools I used to rap with/all expect magic/like my fingers get to snappin’/and poof it just happens.”
The good Doc finally makes an appearance on the board with “American Psycho 2” featuring B-Real (who makes a very good match with Dr .Dre’s production by the way) and this is a well needed addition to D12 World. Oh my god the track is bananas, and Dre’s guitar licks compliment every member of D12 as they tell tales about how crazy and insane they are (a common topic for the Dozen).
Soft spots on the album are “Leave Dat Boy Alone,” the disappointing title track “D12 World,” and “40 Oz.” which is D12’s attempt at the Down South birthed Crunk music. The verses on “40 Oz.” are average, but the hook and beat sound like something even Lil Jon & The Eastside Boys would have even thrown in the trash. “Keep Talkin” and “6 In Tha Mornin” are two tracks that D12 have been using as promotion on the streets, as they both have been circulating on every mixtape from Kay Slay to Whoo Kid in the past 6 months.
Finally, “Bugz 97” gives the late Bugz (an original member of D12 who was killed) a little bit of shine, and this track sets up “Good Die Young” where D12 (Eminem less once again) tell stories about their fallen homie. This is a positive type of track, and it has a great sentimental value to the Dozen I am sure, but vocally the hook seems a little too all over the place, and not organized too well at all.
This brings me to my summary of D12 World, and not to downplay D12 or take anything away from them lyrically, because for the most part the actually can spit (minus Bizarre of course). But on this album, they surely have fallen victim to the infamous Canibus Syndrome (which is when an emcee who can really spit fire, can’t record an album worth a damn). D12 are so much more capable of releasing a better album, bottom line. While Eminem’s production is becoming more and more predictable; Kon Artis’s board work is becoming more and more promising. Hopefully Eminem can step out of his predictable patterns in the future, and shock us like he so often does.
On D12 World, the Dozen used a totally different formula that they did on Devil’s Night, but unfortunately it comes up short. This album lacks good song structure. Where one song might have a good hook, the verses don’t always compliment the chorus, and where another song might have some dynamite verses, the hooks don’t match. Only a few songs here have what it takes to make a good hip-hop album, and the rest should have been left over for one of Whoo Kid’s, or DJ Clue’s many exclusives. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in D12 World, and I and wondering what kind of response it will receive from our beloved culture. I will be watching D12 closely to see what this album does for them in the near future. Too much Bizarre, and too little Eminem equal our lowest rating here at Lbs. so far, a 0.007. But fuck it, what do I know, maybe I am being too critical, but hey, that’s my job fam. Stay up, one.

My favorite part of D12 World is the end....that would have to be the worst group on Interscope. Besides Em, Proof, and maybe Kon-Artist D12 is wack. I downloaded it just to fill the Mp3 player a lil more but only listened to it once. As a group they need to end it on a good note, they just did solid numbers....call it quits and try for the solo thing....Kon-Artist is still living off of that P.I.M.P. money....Em is just Em....Proof is proof....The rest of em should chill

MY RATING OF THIS ALBUM = 3

I truly love this album, D12 & Eminem did betta than "Devils Night"
They Stepped up there Game, Eminem Murdered the first verse of "Git Up"
Proof was on fire with his lyrical content & flow, Kon Artist is flat out nice,
Bizarre is plain bizarre with his lyrics, kuniva stepped up his flow,
I loved the song "Get My Gun", and I really respect the tribute to Bugz
that was a good show of gratitude and respect from D12 & Em. I have to say this album is Str8 Fire, D12 lived up to there name, they are the Dirty Dozen.
and if any people did not know the name of the member's of D12, they should know now.

some strong songs;

loyalty, just like u, ill be damed, how come, get my gun, keep talkin

it coulda been much better, it lacks replayabilty. i now there wanted to go more mauture but eminem once agian fails to produce songs properly on some songs, and kon is not a capable rapper at times, same with bizzare. some wack lines in songs as well (e.g. d12world, 40 oz, american psycho 2, ur the one)
