I'm going to do an in-depth review so bare with me, because I am afterall a budding journalist.
I want to start of by saying that this album is overtly sexual. Almost all of the songs have a sexual refrence in them.
Okay. Let's begin. First off, I am a fan of the harmonies that were brought to the table. They were aboslutely oustanding. Everyone's voice is so different so it really works in a good way.
Now, for the track reviews:
Track 01.) Playhouse - The thing that bothers me about this track is the spelling. It should honestly be two words but hey - it's their vision. The song is extremely sexual. The first time I heard it I seriously flinched at the lyrics and refrences to sexual activity. The song is somewhat slow - more of a mid-tempo slow song if you know what I mean by that. The music is simple - not too much and not too little.
Rating: 2/5 Stars
Track 02.) Your Body - I have been addicted to this song since the first day I got the album. The lyrics are a bit simple, but the beat and harmonies make up for it big time. I love the vocal arrangements. Just the way the vocals work with the rhythmic beats is tantalizing. Of course it's a sexual song - but it's not as overboard as "Playhouse".
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Track 03.) Grind With Me - Let me just say that the radio version is way better. The album, unedited, version is disgusting. It's their worst song on the album to me. The radio single is excellent but the lyrics in this one are just out of this world gross. The harmonies are the only thing that this song has going for itself.
Rating: 2/5 Stars
Track 04.) Get A Little Closer - Harmonies yet again save this song - however the production and vocal effects are not the best. The beat is pretty decent. The lyrics are getting better as the album progresses and well there is no true reason why I like this song. It's just something that appealed to me. Oh and in this song the normal arrangment of everyone's verse is still in order. Baby Blu; Spectacular; Slick?Em... while Pleasure weaves in and out of the track with his sex-inspired vocals.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Track 05.) Never Let You Go - THE ABSOLUTE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM. Everything is perfect. No extra vocal effects. Great lyrics, amazing harmonies, not too many sexual refrences, and of course a hot beat. The song is about them not wanting to let a girl go but she leaves - they make it without her - and she wants to come back and they don't want her. Caution: I am not saying that they are all sharing one girl.
Rating: 6/5 Stars
Track 06.) Juicy - A very lustful song that starts off with a soft bell with strong guitars and a greeting line that screams "HORNY". The sexual refrences are a bit candid. The song's title is perfect because the jucies that flow from it are hot. The theme is sweat and a few other body fluids that I will not mention. It's not overboard because of it's candid ways. However, Spectacular's verse shines more than others because his voice is just smooth like the song.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Track 07.) Call Me - With it's music box intro you'd think it'd be a sweet song, but boy will you be fooled. The beat is hot - with the music box sounds in the background while the track is laced with sexual refrences as usual but it's not as much as "Playhouse". Once again I must say the harmonies do the song justice. These kids know how to work their voices to make it work. The lyrics, shallow, but it's a good song.
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Track 08.) Nothing But A Number - I can't help but skip to this song sometimes. It's the classic "You're older than me but I'm not fooling around because I want to be with you" song. It's set off by a hard beat with a synthesized feel to it. The harmonies are okay in this one. The vocals are nothing to brag about but the lyrics are pretty decent. It's hot that's for sure.
Rating : 4/5 Stars
Track 09.) Grill 'Em - The first of the two party songs on this album. It's a mid-tempo "grill" anthem. It's title doesnt' quite fit. I would have added a "(Bluestars)" at the end because boy do you hear the word 'blue' quite a few times in this song. No harmonies on this song but the rhyhmes have stepped up and they take control of this song. The chorus, nothing special, so just listen to it for the verses.
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Track 10.) Get You Right - It sounds like a major Usher rip. A mixture of "You've Got It Bad" guitars, "Nice and Slow" feeling, and just an over all Usher vibe. There is nothing special about this song. Not even the harmonies could save this one - because they're not the best. One of the worst tracks on the album, for sure.
Rating: 1/5 Stars
Track 11.) Chevy - Let's just say you don't want you mom to listen to the first few verses because of major sexual refrences. The song is as crunk as can be with hot harmonies. The lyrics are hot, the beat is amazing, and it's just a good song - but the sex could have been left off of this song.. afterall it is supposed to be about driving a Chevy.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Track 12.) I Want You (Girlfriend) - I'm not going to lie. The only thing I'd listen to this song for is just the... well nothing. Skip it, they're trying too hard.
Rating: 2/5 Stars
Track 13.) Shorty Be Mine - This became my favorite song after hearing it in my sleep thousands of times. The vocals are a bit annoying I won't lie, but there is just something about this song that I love. Nothing else to say really... except Spectacular raps first - which is a first.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Track 14.) Can't Live Without You - I've never really listened to this song, because it's so boring. Nothing special at all. Why it made the final cut is beyond me.
Rating: 2/5 Stars
Summary: This album is a pretty decent debut from a group without a lot of promotional appearances and whatnot. I'd say that you should download it before you buy it used or something instead of just getting it right away... unless you think I'm just blabbing.
Overal Rating: 55/70 Stars (79% - A bit above average)
