Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: The Complete First Season
One of the best sitcoms on the '90s finally hits the DVD circuit. This is personally one of my fav. shows, so I had to cop this as soon as I heard about it. First off, the extra feature is really disappointing. All it is is a 16 min. retrospective that's missing only half the cast including Will. I kind of expected a bit more for such a great show. The season is on point, but def. probably the worst out of all 6 seasons. There are some great, def. re-watchable eps like "72 Hours"(Carlton spends 3 days in Compton), "Knowledge Is Power" (Will blackmails Hilary into working as his slave) and a few others.
Verdict: If you really love the show, cop it. If you just passively watch it, wait for the next seasons.
Price: 26.99. (includes bonus disc w/ Family Matters + Head of the Class pilots)
The Wayans Bros.: The Complete First Season
One of the most underwatched series of the mid and late 90s. I barely watched this show when it was on, but I am glad that I bought it on DVD. The DVD contains absolutely no supplementals or anything. Luckily, the show makes up for it. Almost every episode is great stuff. I can't say this is the best or worst season, because I haven't seen even half of the episodes. Thanks to this, I will def. buy the other seasons on DVD.
Verdict: Great comedy, worth a buy for anybody that enjoys a good sitcom.
Price:26.99 (includes bonus disc w/ eps of Hangin with Mr. Cooper + The Redd Foxx Show)
The Jamie Foxx Show: The Complete First Season
It's kinda funny how Jamie Foxx went from this to dual Oscar nods. The show is OK, and worth a few laughs but for the most part weakened as it neared its end. (Why does every good sitcom have to be cancelled? Why can't it be like Seinfeld, and get everyone to watch the final 3 eps?) The extra in this is a gag reel which isn't that great (any Laffapalooza is better) It's a good set for quick laughs.
Verdict: Maybe rental, but if you enjoy sitcoms from the past, this is copworthy.
Price:26.99 (includes bonus disc w/ eps of Living Single + Whose Line is it Anyway?)
Ray
The best movie of the year is all you need to know about this. Jamie Foxx is damn near perfect in his role. You can def. see the Ray Charles in him. Some features are director commentary, 2 extended musical performances, and a feture on Jamie Foxx "stepping into" Ray's shoes. Jamie Foxx, along with many others give amazing performances. I think I may boycott watching movies if Foxx doesn't get this Oscar.
Verdict: Must buy
Price:19.99, 36.99 for Special Edition
